Opinions are like assholes

I know you will have trouble believing this, but sometimes I can be a teeny bit opinionated.

Oh shut up, you two. I'm not that bad.

But anyway, I was thinking about opinions, why we have them, how we get them, why some things create a strong mono-directional opinion whilst others leave us quite ambivalent to the point of fence sitting. And I came to several conclusions;

1. it's a control thing
2. it's a freedom thing
3. it's because there is a shortage of chocolate in my house.

OK, leave out the chocolate (which should be easy seeing as how I don't have any) and we are left with using our freedom of speech to attempt to tell others what is right by our definition and in doing so create controlling factions, which morph into entities like political parties and Plunket Committees. And I hate politics. I'm not too keen on Plunket Committees, either.

See, if I had a house full of chocolate I could probably render some sense from all that. Mind you, if I had a house full of chocolate I wouldn't have lost 11 odd kilograms...

Oh yeah, I was going to say something about not bothering to tell other people what to do, cos they don't care anyway. That is, of course, my new motto to stand alongside my favourite personal homily (courtesy of Mark) which is "Not My Problem". "I don't care" has a nice punch to it, too.

Don't you think?

"If I wanted your opinion I'd give it to you."

Opinions are also an age thing. As we get older we theoretically get wiser & feel this overwhelming compunction to pass on that wisdom to the younger , inexperienced members of our family & friends.... "If you don't stop doing that you'll go blind." Not necessarily always right, but done in the vain hope that the younger might somehow benefit from the wisdom of our age, bypass that particular experience & actually advance the evolution of the human race. Doesn't work though does it.. One of the phrases that I absolutely loathe & detest is, "If you want my opinion" which is generally followed by an unsolicited opinion anyway.. Oh well, I better scat ,because , in my opinion I should stop pontificating, drag my sorry ass off this chair, & do something constructive towards getting to work.. Not bad for 5.15 AM huh ?

(Note to self - say "If you want MY opinion" as often as possible in Flattie's presence)

Well, in MY opinion, that could be extremely hazardous to your health...

I know if I don't stop doing that I'll go blind, but is it OK if I keep doing it until I need glasses? -Ô¿Ô-
